Summer Play

While working in our yard this June, I would daydream quilting ideas. So many things I saw at market were fused on, rather than pieced. I decided I wanted to join the fun.
The other day was rainy, so it was a perfect time to start. First I fused some squares of batik. I cut them into curved 1/2" strips using the Cut A Round tool. Then I arranged them on several larger background squares and fused them into place. This is what my first squares looked like:

I had thought I would continue making a total of 9 blocks, alternating between the greenish backgrounds and the purplish backgrounds. Nah...didn't like that after making four squares.

So I cut the two purple squares into fourths and added a ninth smaller piece:Next I added lattice pieces between the squares and surface stitched all sorts of lines using decorative stitches on my new sewing machine.

I studied the left over green squares and found I liked them the best. So I made a couple more to sew together into a tablerunner or long wallhanging.

If you would like to have instructions on how I made my squiggly slivers, go to my website freebie pattern page. The download is found there.

Next project I'm planning is a Yucca plant using the slices you see here and there in these pieces!

Until then,
Happy Quilting,
Cheryl

Spring Quilt Market

We are headed to the 2011 Spring Quilt Market in Salt Lake City, Utah. This is a chance to meet and get to know other quilt vendors from around the world. Although it's not open to the public, retailers from around the country also attend to shop and see what the quilt world has to offer that is new and exciting. More to come on our trip to Salt Lake soon so keep an eye on my new blog.
Happy Quilting!
